FENDI, the renowned Italian luxury fashion house, has partnered with acclaimed architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects to create a groundbreaking collection that merges high fashion with avant-garde design. This collaboration showcases innovative Lycra running shoes and two leather Peekaboo handbags, all bearing the unmistakable hallmarks of Ma Yansong’s architectural vision.
The collection made its debut during FENDI’s Fall/Winter 2024 fashion show in Milan, captivating audiences with its bold fusion of fashion and architecture. Now available to the public, these pieces offer fashion enthusiasts a unique opportunity to own wearable art that embodies the fluid, organic forms characteristic of MAD Architects’ designs.
Ma Yansong’s creative partnership with FENDI’s creative director, Silvia Venturini Fendi, has resulted in a collection that pushes the boundaries of conventional fashion. The running shoes, available in three distinct colorways, feature a sleek, slip-on design with elastic laces crisscrossing a Lycra-padded mesh upper. An ultra-lightweight sole encases the rubber shell, while injected detailing in metallic silver, yellow, or dark blue adds a futuristic touch.
The reimagined Peekaboo handbags, crafted from Cuoio Romano leather, showcase Ma Yansong’s architectural influence through undulating lines and strategically placed cutouts. Available in two versions, one with yellow varnished aluminum inserts and another with dark blue, these bags reinterpret FENDI’s iconic design with a fresh, contemporary perspective.
To showcase this groundbreaking collection, FENDI and MAD Architects enlisted short-track speed skater Lin Xiaojun for a dynamic campaign set against the backdrop of the Harbin Grand Theatre, another of Ma Yansong’s architectural marvels.
This collaboration between FENDI and Ma Yansong represents a harmonious blend of fashion and architecture, offering us a chance to experience the intersection of these two creative disciplines in a tangible, wearable form.
