The prestigious Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta has unveiled its new Residence on Madison Avenue, marking a significant expansion of its presence in New York City. Located above the brand’s boutique at 740 Madison Avenue, the innovative Bottega Veneta Residence concept represents a sophisticated blend of Venetian craftsmanship and American design sensibilities.
This exclusive, appointment-only space showcases an expertly curated selection of mid-century Italian design pieces and Venetian artistry. Creative Director Matthieu Blazy personally selected each element, from the striking Murano glass chandelier to the distinctive gondola-shaped Adrian Pearsall sofa, creating an environment that speaks to both the brand’s heritage and contemporary luxury.
The Madison Avenue location holds special significance for Bottega Veneta, as the brand’s very first store opened just a few blocks away at 635 Madison Avenue in 1972. This historic connection underscores the Italian luxury house’s deep roots in New York City, while also demonstrating how the brand continues to evolve in the modern luxury landscape.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the space serves multiple functions. Private clients have access to exclusive services, including personalized wardrobe consultations, collection previews and bespoke pieces. The Residence also features a bar and dining facilities, establishing itself as more than just a retail space, but rather a complete luxury experience.
Particularly noteworthy is the careful selection of design elements that pay homage to both Italian and American creative traditions. The interior features works by renowned designers such as Gino Sarfatti, whose floor lamp is a testament to Italian lighting design excellence, and George Nakashima, who represents American craftsmanship at its finest.
The concept of the Bottega Veneta Residence goes beyond mere aesthetics to include cultural programming and artistic exchange. The space hosts regular cultural events that foster dialogue across artistic disciplines and generations, upholding the brand’s commitment to creative engagement and community building.
CEO Leo Rongone emphasizes how the Residence embodies Bottega Veneta’s core values while creating a dialogue between Venice and New York. The space serves as a physical manifestation of the brand’s ethos, bringing Venetian craftsmanship to Manhattan’s sophisticated clientele.
In addition to its exclusive offerings, the Residence showcases Bottega Veneta’s newly launched fine jewelry collection, making it one of only two locations worldwide where these pieces are available. The space also provides a platform for artisans from the Veneto region through the “Bottega for Bottegas” initiative, supporting small artisans and maintaining links with the brand’s artisanal roots.
Careful attention to historical detail extends to design elements inspired by archival images of the original Bottega Veneta store, including the selection of the Murano chandelier, which evokes the classic Venetian palazzo style of the brand’s first retail space.
