The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have been rescheduled to coincide with the upcoming U.S. presidential debate. Originally scheduled for September 10, the VMAs will now air live on September 11 at 8pm Eastern from the UBS Arena on New York‘s Long Island. The change comes after ABC News confirmed that both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have agreed to participate in a debate on the original VMA date.
The VMAs are known for their star-studded performances and prestigious awards, and this year is no different. On Tuesday, MTV announced the 2024 nominees, with Taylor Swift leading the pack with 10 nominations. Her collaborative music video “Fortnight” earned eight nods, and she also received nominations in the Artist of the Year and Best Pop categories. Close on her heels is Post Malone, who shares eight nominations with Swift for “Fortnight” and an additional nomination for his country hit “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen.
Other nominees in the artist of the year category include Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter and SZA. Swift, who won nine VMAs last year, now has a total of 23 awards, placing her just behind Beyoncé (28 awards, including two with Destiny’s Child) and ahead of Madonna (20 awards) and Lady Gaga (19 awards).
Grande, Carpenter and Eminem each have six nominations, while Megan Thee Stallion and SZA each have five. Blackpink’s LISA, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims follow with four nominations each.
Fan voting in 15 gender-neutral categories is currently active online and will close on August 30th. Voting in the Best New Artist category will remain open throughout the show.
Performers at the 2024 VMAs include Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro and Camila Cabello.
