A mainstay in the sneaker world since its debut in 1998, the Nike Air Max Plus continues to reign supreme. This year has seen a steady stream of the Sean McDowell-designed silhouette, from innovative offshoots like the Air Max Plus Drift to exciting collaborations and impressive general release colorways. As we approach the final quarter of 2024, the Air Max Plus shows no signs of slowing down, with a striking “University Gold” iteration gracing the black base of this iconic shoe.
The “University Gold” moniker isn’t just for show. The colorway’s black and yellow palette instantly evokes comparisons to iconic footwear like the Batman and Wu-Tang dunks, as well as the timeless Jordan 12 Taxi. However, the “University Gold” on this Air Max Plus takes a more subtle approach, primarily adorning the heel with a gradient effect. Black dominates the upper, with contrasting pops from the “University Gold” tongue branding and a small white swoosh.
While some Air Max Plus purists might prefer an all-black midsole for a consistent look, this version surprises with a white midsole. The midsole structure mirrors the black to university gold gradient found on the upper, creating a smooth transition to the outsole for a cohesive design.
While an official release date hasn’t been announced yet, the Nike Air Max Plus “Black/White/University Gold” is expected to arrive sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.
