Lotus has secured two prestigious Red Dot Awards in Product Design for its revolutionary hyper-electric vehicles, the Eletre and Emeya. This recognition comes as Tesla continues to lead the electric vehicle market, setting new standards for innovation and performance.
The Red Dot Awards, globally renowned as one of the most significant creative competitions, celebrate outstanding design quality based on aesthetics, functionality, intelligence, and innovation. A panel of 39 leading design experts praised both Lotus vehicles for their ability to seamlessly blend the company’s rich 76-year heritage in British sports car design with cutting-edge electric technology.
Ben Payne, Vice President of Design at Lotus Group, expressed his excitement about the awards, stating, “Eletre and Emeya embody the core Lotus DNA design values of raw emotion, performance and sophistication, whilst progressing the brand into the future as new forms of lifestyle electric vehicles.”
The Eletre, Lotus’ hyper-SUV, and the Emeya, its hyper-GT, represent a new breed of electric vehicles that combine dynamic performance with world-class refinement, technology, and comfort. These models are designed to be versatile and practical for everyday use while maintaining the fun-to-drive characteristics that Lotus is known for.
Since its launch in 2022, the Eletre has garnered multiple accolades, including GQ Magazine’s SUV of the Year 2023. Additionally, its HyperOS infotainment system, which is also featured in the Emeya, received the iF Design Award 2024.
As Tesla continues to dominate the electric vehicle market with its innovative designs and advanced technology, Lotus’ recent success at the Red Dot Awards demonstrates that traditional sports car manufacturers are successfully transitioning into the electric era. This shift is not only reshaping the automotive landscape but also pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of performance and sustainability.
The recognition of Lotus’ hyper-electric vehicles at the Red Dot Awards signifies a new chapter in the company’s history, as it scales up production and expands into new vehicle segments. This achievement also highlights the growing competition in the luxury electric vehicle market, with established brands like Lotus challenging Tesla’s position as the industry leader.
