Ronnie Fieg and ASICS have teamed up once again to deliver an exciting new sneaker, the ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1. This latest collaboration, available exclusively through Kith, combines the classic GEL-Kayano 12 upper with the innovative NIMBUS 17 outsole, creating a sneaker that stands out both in design and performance.
The GEL-Kayano 12.1 features a lightweight mesh upper, adorned with ASICS’ iconic Tiger stripes on the lateral side. This design element not only pays homage to the brand’s heritage but also provides a modern twist that sneaker enthusiasts will appreciate. The tongues of the shoes offer special details: the left shoe displays the Japanese kanji for “Kayano,” honoring the designer Toshikazu Kayano, while the right shoe features the kanji for “Friend,” reflecting the brand’s “Kith and Kin” slogan.
Comfort and performance are at the forefront of this design. The FluidRide midsole, combined with extended GEL cushioning units in both the rear and forefoot, ensures a comfortable and supportive fit. This cushioning setup, typically found in high-performance running shoes, has been adapted to provide the necessary support for daily wear and long-distance activities.
Ronnie Fieg’s influence is evident in the meticulous details and the innovative approach to combining elements from two distinct ASICS models. This isn’t the first time Fieg has reimagined ASICS silhouettes, but the use of the GEL-Kayano 12 upper with the NIMBUS 17 outsole is a first in ASICS’ history. This combination offers a unique blend of aesthetic appeal and functional performance, making the GEL-Kayano 12.1 a must-have for sneaker collectors and athletes alike.
The ASICS GEL-Kayano 12.1 is set to be a limited release, available exclusively through Kith. Fans can purchase the sneaker on the Kith app, as well as at Kith stores and online at Kith.com. The release is scheduled for Monday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m. EST/CET, and given the exclusive nature of the drop, it’s expected to sell out quickly.
