Bitmo Lab has unveiled GameBaby, a reversible and removable case that transforms the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 into a nostalgic retro console. Designed specifically for the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro Max models, this innovative accessory combines device protection with a gaming experience reminiscent of classic handheld consoles.
The GameBaby case consists of two distinct parts. The top section remains stationary, protecting the top half of the device. The bottom section houses the physical gaming buttons and can be pulled out, flipped, and connected to the charging port of the iPhone 15 or 16. Once attached, it transforms the smartphone screen into a gaming interface, complete with tactile controls that hark back to the 16-bit era of the early 1990s.
The accessory features a D-pad controller with two action buttons and two bumpers, providing a familiar layout for fans of classic games. Below the main controls are the Select and Start buttons, as well as a “switch” button located on the right side. The design ensures that players have a comfortable and intuitive control scheme at their fingertips when they are immersed in the game.
When not in gaming mode, the bottom section can be returned to its original position to resume its role of protecting the device from everyday wear and tear. The case’s materials appear soft and plush, likely using silicone or a similar substance to prevent damage to the screen when the buttons are used. This design choice not only enhances the tactile feel, but also adds a premium touch to the overall aesthetic.
The case comes in a vibrant yellow, a fitting choice that complements its playful purpose. While the buttons are designed to be unobtrusive, they are prominent enough for users to enjoy a satisfying tactile response during gameplay. It’s worth noting that when the controller is in use, the back of the iPhone 15 or 16 Pro Max is briefly exposed as the case’s protective layer shifts to accommodate the gaming setup.
Bitmo Lab has not yet announced whether GameBaby will be compatible with other iPhone models in the future. Details about the specific materials used in the case’s construction also remain under wraps. However, the company’s focus on combining nostalgia with modern technology suggests a commitment to quality and user experience.
Users should be aware that the GameBaby case does not include any games. Bitmo Lab emphasizes the importance of owning the games you play and states that it does not support piracy. This ethical stance is in line with the company’s innovative approach, which encourages gamers to enjoy their favorite titles responsibly.
GameBaby represents a fusion of past and present, offering tech enthusiasts a unique way to enjoy retro games on modern devices. By transforming the iPhone 15 and 16 into a handheld console, Bitmo Lab taps into nostalgia while providing practical protection, making it a compelling accessory for those passionate about technology and gaming.
Currently available for pre-sale, GameBaby is attracting attention with its early bird pricing. The first 1,000 customers can secure the case for $19.99 USD. Following this initial offering, a second batch will be priced at $24.99 USD. Finally, the case will retail for $39.99 USD both online and in stores. Deliveries are expected to begin around November 2024, giving enthusiasts something to look forward to next year.
