Masayuki Ino’s doublet Spring 2025 collection masterfully blends Japanese fan culture with innovative fashion, showcasing the designer’s unique ability to transform popular culture into wearable art. The collection, unveiled in a concert-like setting, pays homage to the concept of “oshi” – the intense devotion fans have for their idols.
Ino’s interpretation of fan culture is both playful and sophisticated. The collection features ita biker jackets adorned with anime badges, a clever nod to Japan’s ita bags. These pieces exemplify Ino’s talent for merging street style with high fashion, creating garments that are both visually striking and culturally significant.
The runway presentation was a spectacle in itself, with attendees given uchiwa fans bearing messages like “Blow a kiss!” and “We love Doublet!” This interactive element brought the theme of fandom to life, immersing the audience in the experience.
doublet‘s Spring 2025 line doesn’t shy away from bold statements. Cheerleading-inspired pieces, such as pom-pom sleeves and clutches, add a touch of whimsy. T-shirts and jeans featuring AI-generated anime characters showcase Ino’s embrace of cutting-edge technology in design.
Beyond the playful exterior, the collection boasts impeccable tailoring and innovative fabric choices. Ino’s increasing use of sustainable materials like Spiber, a protein-based fabric, and bio-PVC made from apple waste, demonstrates his commitment to eco-friendly fashion.
The collection also serves as a thank you note to Ino’s supporters since his LVMH Prize win in 2018. It’s a celebration of the designer’s journey and the loyal fan base he has cultivated along the way.
Standout pieces include leather jackets with military-inspired details, technical outerwear reminiscent of ’80s music videos, and accessories like spiked canvas sneakers and tinsel-like clutch bags. The collection reaches its pinnacle with distressed V-neck sweaters bearing the phrase “I’m Obsessed,” perfectly encapsulating the theme of fan devotion.
