Jordan Brand has unveiled its latest tribute to Mexican heritage with the release of the Air Jordan 5 El Grito. This meticulously crafted sneaker is inspired by the vibrant culture, rich history and artisanal traditions of Mexico.
The Air Jordan 5 El Grito features a crisp white leather upper accented with meticulously embossed details on the tongue, toe and heel. These intricate patterns evoke the artistry of traditional Mexican crafts such as Talavera pottery, known for its colorful glazes and intricate designs. Bold red and green accents on the laces and midsole teeth provide a striking contrast against the white background, while the inscription “viva” engraved on the dubraes adds an unmistakably Mexican touch to the iconic silhouette.
Further emphasizing the cultural connection, a green, red and white Jordan Brand label adorns the inside of the tongue. A geometric burgundy pattern adorns the lining of the shoe for an unexpected pop of color. The Air Jordan 5 El Grito arrives in special edition packaging that further highlights the design inspiration of the shoe. The box features the shoe’s signature graphics and proudly displays a vintage-inspired “Air Jordan” logo.
This release follows a series of initiatives by Jordan Brand to connect with Latin American sneaker enthusiasts. These efforts include collaborations that celebrate Mexican culture, such as the Jordan Chilango apparel collection and special editions of the Air Jordan 1 released as part of Nike’s Día de Muertos collections. Notably, the September release of the Air Jordan 5 El Grito closely coincides with Mexican Independence Day on September 16th.
Following a limited release in Mexico, including at the new Jordan World of Flight Mexico City, the Air Jordan 5 El Grito is available globally at nike.com and select retailers.
