Swatch has unveiled its latest innovation, the MoonSwatch MISSION TO EARTHPHASE, a timepiece that celebrates both the Earth and the Moon with a unique combination of complications never before seen in the history of watchmaking. This watch combines a lunar phase indicator and, for the first time, an earth phase indicator, offering a poetic reflection of our planet’s relationship with its satellite.
At two o’clock on the dial, the moon-phase sub-dial displays the lunar cycle as observed from Earth. Meanwhile, at ten o’clock, the Earth Phase sub-dial displays the phases of the Earth as seen from the Moon. These two indicators highlight the inversely related cycles of the Moon and Earth, each completing a phase in 29.5 days. When the Moon is full, the Earth appears as New Earth from the Moon’s perspective, and vice versa. The Earth phase indicator rotates counterclockwise, reflecting the opposite direction of the Moon’s rotation as seen from Earth.
Swatch’s innovative approach allows enthusiasts to appreciate a rarely considered view: how our planet appears from the lunar surface. The design elements reinforce this celestial theme. The dial is grained to mimic lunar dust, and the moon’s craters are reproduced using advanced digital printing techniques. The Earth phase features vibrant colors representing the diversity of our planet, with visible clouds and contrasting landscapes of oceans, forests and deserts. Under ultraviolet light, the oceans glow blue thanks to UV-coated ink, adding an element of intrigue.
Constructed with Swatch’s patented Bioceramic material – a blend of two-thirds ceramic and one-third biodegradable materials derived from castor oil – the watch combines durability with eco-conscious design. The Bioceramic bezel features a black tachymeter scale with striking light gray markers, a new color addition that complements the overall aesthetic. The watch also features a chronograph function, staying true to the MoonSwatch collection’s heritage.
The mission statement is proudly displayed on the back of the case, along with the OMEGA X SWATCH logos on the dial and crown. The battery cover features an image of the moon with Neil Armstrong’s footprint, paying homage to the first human steps on the lunar surface. This detail links the watch to the rich history of space exploration.
Inspired by the iconic images of Earth captured during the Apollo missions, the MoonSwatch MISSION TO EARTHPHASE brings a piece of this history to the wrist. It captures the essence of OMEGA’s legendary Speedmaster Moonwatch – the first watch to travel to the Moon – with features such as the asymmetrical case and the famous dot above ninety on the tachymeter scale.
Available from 2 November in selected Swatch retailers worldwide, this non-limited edition watch continues the MoonSwatch legacy and offers enthusiasts an accessible piece of horological innovation. As with other models in the collection, the purchase is limited to one per person, per day and per store.
