ByteDance is a Chinese multinational internet technology company headquartered in Beijing, founded by Zhang Yiming in 2012. It is known as China’s most famous consumer app factory, behind social media apps like TikTok, Douyin, and AI-powered news aggregator Toutiao. The company is reportedly worth over $100 billion as of May 2020 and has over 800 million daily active users across all of its content platforms. ByteDance is backed financially by investors outside of China (60%), its founders and Chinese investors (20%), and employees (20%).
