As PlayStation approaches its 30th anniversary, the gaming giant unveils a limited-edition collection that bridges the past and present to delight longtime fans. This exclusive lineup of PlayStation 5 Pro and accessories pays homage to the iconic gray design and colorful logo of the original 1994 console.
The centerpiece of this commemorative release is the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition bundle. This highly sought-after package includes a specially designed console with 2TB SSD and Wi-Fi 7 capability, along with matching controllers, charging station and console cover. Sony has produced only 12,300 units of this bundle, a number symbolizing the launch date of the original PlayStation.
For those who prefer a digital experience, the PS5 Digital Edition 30th Anniversary Bundle offers similar nostalgic styling with a 1TB SSD. Both bundles come with unique collectibles including a vertical stand, PlayStation shaped cable ties and a limited edition poster.
Hideaki Nishino, CEO of PlayStation’s platform business, emphasized the significance of the collection: “We had to create something that honored the history and joy that PlayStation has brought us all.” This sentiment resonates with gamers who have witnessed the evolution of PlayStation consoles over three decades.
The collection’s design cleverly taps into the nostalgia of gamers in their 30s, many of whom grew up with the original PlayStation. By recreating the classic gray color scheme and vintage logo on modern hardware, Sony creates a powerful emotional connection to gaming’s past while showcasing its latest technology.
PlayStation’s journey from its 1994 debut to today reflects significant technological advancements. The original console’s 300,000-pixel graphics have given way to 4K resolutions with over 8 million pixels. Audio has evolved from stereo to immersive 3D sound, while controllers have evolved to include haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Pre-orders for the 30th Anniversary Collection will begin on September 26, with an official release date set for November 21.
