Nike introduces the Nike Vomero 18, marking a significant step in its running shoe lineup for those seeking ultimate comfort. The Vomero 18 stands as the icon of Nike’s maximum cushioning category, offering runners a plush and supportive experience.
“We heard from runners that when they think of maximum cushioning, they envision a soft, plush experience that alleviates feeling the impact of the ground underfoot” said Ashley Campbell, Nike Running Footwear Product Line Manager. “We obsessed the details to give the running community that sensation with best-in-class design and technology.”
Nike is streamlining its running footwear into three main categories based on cushioning: supportive, responsive and maximum. The Structure represents the supportive line, Pegasus embodies the responsive line, and Vomero leads the maximum cushioning option. This approach simplifies the choice for runners.
“Runners were telling us they need a more simplified way to find our product and grounded in a benefit they care for,,” explains Marian Dougherty, Nike’s senior director of global running footwear. “That was cushioning. It is more intuitive for runners and drives consistency and distinction to give runners more choice.“
The Nike Vomero 18 features a midsole that combines full-length ZoomX foam with targeted ReactX foam in the heel and forefoot. The shoe has an increased stack height of 46mm in the heel and 36mm in the forefoot – six millimeters higher than its predecessor – which contributes to its improved cushioning.
The upper is made of soft and stretchy engineered mesh with a focus on breathability around the toe and tongue. Touch points such as the tongue, collar, sockliner, lining, laces and pull tab have been updated to provide a sense of softness and comfort.
“What I love is how versatile it is in both function and style,” said Campbell. “Once you get used to this level of comfort, it’s hard to run in anything else.“
The Nike Vomero 18 is ideal for new runners looking for cushioning, experienced runners looking to increase their mileage with less stress, and competitive runners in need of a recovery shoe. Updated rocker geometry provides a smooth transition from heel to toe, and a slightly wider forefoot, midfoot and heel increase stability.
Nike plans to release the Vomero 18 on February 27, 2025. This launch marks a new era for the Vomero line and firmly positions it as the franchise that symbolizes maximum cushioning in Nike’s running shoe offering.
“We are allowing runners the choice to choose what works for them,” said Dougherty. “We want people of all running levels to understand what our product does for them and then choose how to use it.“
