The Nike Air Max line is a shoe juggernaut. The Air Max Plus celebrates its 25th anniversary, while stalwarts like the Air Max 1 and 95 continue their reliable march. But Nike‘s design team continues to push the envelope, even with the brand’s most revered silhouettes. Enter the Air Max 90 Drift, a new take on the classic design that recently debuted in a bold “Action Green” colorway ahead of its official release.
Compared to the Air Max 90 Futura, another recent offshoot, the Air Max 90 Drift embraces a more technical aesthetic. Leather quarter panels are swapped out for TPU, further emphasizing the sporty core of the original design. The “Action Green” iteration really leans into this futuristic direction, with elements reminiscent of cyberpunk style. The toe box is a perfect example, with a nylon band peeking through a translucent mesh panel to reveal a striking geometric pattern underneath.
While undeniably modern, the “Action Green” doesn’t completely abandon the legacy of the Air Max 90. The color combination of red, green and black is subtly reminiscent of the iconic “Duck Camo” iteration, offering a subtle nod to the model’s past within this progressive design.
The Nike Air Max 90 Drift “Action Green” is available now on Nike.com for $160.
