Montblanc is commemorating the 100th anniversary of its iconic Meisterstück writing instrument with the introduction of the new Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon Skeleton Enheduanna. This limited-edition timepiece pays homage to Enheduanna, the world’s earliest known author, who was appointed high priestess of the moon god Nanna in ancient Sumeria. The watch’s release marks a significant milestone in Montblanc’s legacy of creating exceptional writing instruments and timepieces that honor the world’s most influential figures.
To create this masterpiece, Montblanc’s watch designers collaborated with Catherine Mittermayer, Professor of Mesopotamian Studies at the University of Geneva. The result is a 44.8mm 10-piece limited edition timepiece crafted in 18K yellow gold, featuring intricate decorations inspired by Enheduanna’s life and work. The open-worked anthracite ruthenium-coated German-silver dial is divided into two halves, with the upper half showcasing an onyx hour and minute dial engraved with extracts from one of Enheduanna’s Temple Hymns. A crescent moon at 12 o’clock adds a touch of elegance to the design.
The lower half of the dial features a mirror-polished Exo Tourbillon at 6 o’clock, with an 18K yellow gold engraved Enheduanna sitting on top. The Exo Tourbillon is a patented in-house complication that saves more energy than a conventional tourbillon, thanks to its smaller cage and external balance wheel. The brand’s logo is cleverly integrated into the Sumerian manuscript-inspired design, using symbols for white and mountain at the end of the text on the dial.
The side of the case honors Enheduanna with her words, “The compiler of the tablets was Enheduanna. My king, something has been created that no one has created before.” This quote reflects the author’s groundbreaking work, which was studied and revered for over 500 years. The architectural decorative design behind the 18K gold crafted bull at 3 o’clock represents the Royal Game of Ur, adding another layer of historical significance to the timepiece.
The Montblanc Star Legacy Exo Tourbillon Skeleton Enheduanna is powered by a hand-wound Manufacture German silver skeleton movement calibre MB M16.69, boasting a 50-hour power reserve. The watch comes on a black calf leather strap and is presented in a special box etched with two extracts of Enheduanna’s Temple Hymns, continuing the celebration of her legacy in literature.
