Alexander McQueen‘s Resort 2025 collection, photographed at the grand country house of Hatfield outside London, showcases creative director Sean McGirr’s vision of an “aristocratic punk” revival. This concept is deeply rooted in the house’s history, drawing inspiration from the late Lee McQueen’s fascination with the likes of Isabella Blow, a prominent figure in London’s fashion scene during the 1990s.
The new collection is characterized by a mix of tailored pieces, statement accessories, and bold silhouettes. McGirr’s use of English school uniforms as a starting point is a nod to the brand’s British heritage, while also injecting a sense of irreverence and playfulness into the designs. Double-breasted jackets, cargo pants, and shirts with extended collars all feature in the collection, each with a unique twist that sets them apart from traditional uniform attire.
One of the standout elements of the collection is its focus on unisex clothing. McGirr has designed the pieces to be worn by both men and women, without the need for alteration or adjustment. This approach is reflected in the use of paperbag-waist trousers, soft blouses with bohemian ruffles, and cropped cardigans that are intentionally shrunken to leave gaps between their buttons. By adopting this approach, McGirr is making a statement about the fluidity of fashion and the importance of individuality.

The collection’s print motifs are another notable aspect, featuring a reworked version of Velazquez’s portrait of Pope Innocent X. This 17th-century masterpiece has been chopped up and reassembled on various pieces, including pajama separates, an asymmetrically draped dress, and a turtleneck bodysuit embellished with crystals. McGirr’s use of this iconic artwork adds an extra layer of depth to the collection, inviting the viewer to ponder the relationship between art, fashion, and identity.
In terms of accessories, the collection’s bags and shoes are adorned with T-bar hardware, which adds to the overall punkish aesthetic. Leather jackets with exaggerated peplums and jeans with nail fringe embroidery on the front pockets are just a few examples of the attention to detail that has gone into creating this collection.
