Renault has unveiled the eagerly awaited Renault 4 E-Tech Electric at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. The new model is set to revolutionize the automotive market, just like its predecessor, the 1961 Renault 4, which achieved iconic status and became the people’s choice in over 100 countries.
The original Renault 4 was a turning point in the automotive industry, with a front-mounted engine and a flat floor, making it the perfect spacious and resourceful car for city and country driving. It was a car of its time and place, perfectly suited to a changing society. The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is just as versatile as its predecessor and just right for its time, with its all-electric powertrain, instantly appealing design and contemporary features.
The new model measures 4.14 meters in length, making it the perfect B-segment stablemate for the 3.92-meter-long Renault 5. It uses the same AmpR Small platform, designed to offer the best interior space in its class, uncompromising agility and comfort. The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric will be built in Maubeuge, France, and is scheduled to arrive at dealerships in 2025.
The exterior design of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric is a masterpiece of class and comfort. The elongated grille features a precise, uninterrupted illuminated edge that surrounds the round LED headlights positioned at either end. The car also features a backlit emblem in the center of the face, instantly reminiscent of its 1960s predecessor, but with a technical, modern and original aura.
The 4 logo on the tailgate is a soft-edged, emblematic 4 that stands in for the car’s name. The three-part, pill-shaped tail lights are still there, packed with today’s technology and redesigned around contemporary aesthetic cues. They underline the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric’s unmistakable personality and the glossy black outline adds a touch of sophistication.
The trademark trapezoidal quarter windows, positioned precisely over the rear wheels, are one of the most instantly recognizable features of the original Renault 4. The three parallel sculpted lines emanating from the body structure the car’s profile and add to its charm. A sticker running from the sides of the windshield to the wheel arches recalls the characteristic front fenders of the original Renault 4.
The nod to the original Renault 4’s roof shape is unmistakable, with the spoiler at the far end of the roof adding a lively touch to the car’s silhouette. The angle of the tailgate, which ends in a strikingly low sill, is one of the hallmarks of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric. The front and rear bumpers have vertical overriders in homage to the original Renault 4.
Under the bonnet, the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric features electric motors in two power levels: 120 hp with a 40 kWh battery and 150 hp with a 52 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 400 km. The price is expected to be around 30,000 euros.
The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric will be available in a range of colors, from bright (Hauts de France Green) to chic (two-tone Carmine Red – Black), demonstrating a duality of personality. The car will be utilitarian and practical as well as chic and trendy, making it a versatile model that will appeal to a wide audience.
