After seven years at the helm of iconic French fashion house CELINE, Hedi Slimane is stepping down from his role as artistic, creative and image director.
Since joining the brand in 2018, Hedi Slimane has overseen a period of extraordinary growth and transformation. Under his creative leadership, CELINE has reaffirmed its position as a powerhouse in the luxury fashion industry, with a particular focus on its Parisian roots and feminine aesthetic.
One of Hedi Slimane’s most significant contributions to CELINE was the introduction of menswear to the brand’s repertoire. This bold move expanded CELINE’s reach and appeal, attracting a new demographic of fashion-conscious men to the label. In addition, Slimane’s vision led to the development of CELINE’s couture line and the launch of a Haute Parfumerie collection, further solidifying the brand’s status in the luxury market.
Industry insiders have noted the designer’s meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to his aesthetic vision. A source close to the brand commented, “Hedi’s influence on CELINE has been immense. His ability to blend rock ‘n’ roll edge with Parisian chic has created a unique identity for the house.
The brand’s annual sales are reported to have more than doubled during his tenure. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, CELINE‘s parent company, expressed its gratitude for Slimane’s contributions in a statement: “The extraordinary journey taken together over the last seven years has made CELINE a house with a formidable foundation for the future.”
Speculation is already mounting about his next move and who will take the reins at the storied French label. The Spring/Summer 2025 collection, inspired by a 1960s French summer, is believed to be Slimane’s final offering for the brand. The next creative director will face the challenge of building on Hedi Slimane’s successful tenure, while potentially taking the brand in a new direction.
