Apple’s latest “It’s Glowtime” event has just wrapped up, showcasing a range of exciting new products and features. The iPhone 16 lineup took center stage, but Apple also revealed updates to its smartwatch and AirPods offerings. Let’s dive into the 8 biggest announcements:
iPhone 16 introduces new buttons and AI capabilities
The standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models now sport two new buttons. In addition to the Action Button inherited from the iPhone 15 Pro, there’s a DSLR-inspired capture button for enhanced photography control. The rear cameras are now vertically stacked, supporting spatial video recording for Apple Vision Pro compatibility.
Powering these devices is the new A18 processor, which enables upcoming AI features. The 6.1-inch iPhone 16 starts at $799, while the 6.7-inch Plus version begins at $899. Available in white, black, green, pink, and blue, these models will ship from September 20th.
iPhone 16 Pro models boast larger displays and camera upgrades
The Pro lineup sees a size increase, with the base Pro model featuring a 6.3-inch display and the Pro Max boasting a 6.9-inch screen. Both variants include the new capture button and run on the advanced A18 Pro chip. Apple claims the Pro Max offers the “best iPhone battery life ever.“
Camera improvements are significant, with both Pro models now featuring a 5x telephoto camera with a “tetraprism” design. They also sport upgraded 48-megapixel ultrawide and “Fusion” cameras. Available in gold, black, white, and “natural” titanium, the Pro starts at $999, and the Pro Max at $1,199. Preorders begin Friday, with in-store availability from September 20th.
Visual Intelligence enhances iPhone 16 functionality
All iPhone 16 models come equipped with Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI features launching in beta next month. This includes advanced image search capabilities and custom emoji creation. The new Visual Intelligence feature, tied to the Camera Control button, allows for automatic object recognition in photos and seamless integration with other apps, such as adding events to your calendar from a captured concert poster.
Apple Watch Series 10 slims down, adds features
The latest Apple Watch iteration boasts a thinner profile and a larger, brighter OLED display. New health features include sleep apnea detection and a built-in depth and water temperature sensor. Available in various finishes, including polished aluminum and titanium, the Series 10 starts at $399 and will be available from September 20th.
Apple Watch ultra gets a sleek update
While not receiving major upgrades, the Apple Watch Ultra now comes in a stylish satin black finish. Apple also introduced a titanium Milanese Loop band, designed to resist corrosion and suitable for scuba diving.
AirPods 4 bring improved audio and ANC
The next-generation AirPods feature a new H4 chip for enhanced audio quality and an open-ear design for improved comfort. They offer voice isolation and transparency mode, along with a USB-C-compatible charging case with built-in speaker for easier location. Active noise cancellation is available in a pricier model. The standard version costs $129, while the ANC-equipped model is priced at $179, both shipping from September 20th.
AirPods Pro 2 to double as hearing aids
In a groundbreaking move, Apple announced that the AirPods Pro 2 will soon function as over-the-counter hearing aids. Additional hearing-focused features, including hearing protection and a clinical-grade hearing test, will be available through a free software update this fall in over 100 countries.
AirPods Max receive minor updates
Apple’s over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max, saw a modest update with new color options and a switch from Lightning to USB-C charging.
