The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is a limited-edition masterclass that stands as the final AMG GT3 variant powered by the iconic 6.3-liter V-8 engine. This model marks 130 years since the brand’s first racing triumph, a victory that dates back to July 22, 1894, when a Daimler engine won a race from Paris to Rouen.
Unparalleled power and performance
Without the constraints of typical racing series regulations, Mercedes-AMG has pushed the boundaries of the GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport. The naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V-8 engine is liberated, boasting a competition air restrictor removal and a special exhaust system. This results in a staggering 671 horsepower at 7250 rpm and 538 pound-feet of torque at 5250 rpm, making it the most powerful GT3 variant AMG has ever produced.
Power is seamlessly transmitted through a sequential six-speed racing transmission mounted to the rear axle and connected to the engine via a carbon fiber tube. This setup ensures that every ounce of the engine’s might is efficiently harnessed.
Advanced aerodynamics and safety features
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport isn’t just about raw power; it’s also a marvel of aerodynamics and safety. The car features carbon-ceramic brakes, replacing the steel discs required by GT3 regulations, which helps to shed weight. Downforce is increased by around 15 percent thanks to a new front splitter, louvers in the front fenders, and redesigns for the side skirts, underbody, and a rear diffuser that looks like it means business.
The rear wing is designed to optimize aero balance, and it incorporates a drag reduction system. A button on the steering wheel flattens the wing while extending the active aero on the front of the car to maintain balance. Lateral acceleration or deceleration automatically switches both elements back to their standard positions.
Safety features include a carbon fiber safety cell bolted to the chassis, a five-point harness, safety nets, a steel roll cage, a fire suppression system, a motorsport safety fuel tank, and an emergency hatch. Adjustable traction control and racing ABS ensure that the driver remains in control at all times.
