PUMA is revisiting a beast from the archives this summer with the release of the low-top PUMA Mostro. Debuting in a two-pack of premium, perforated-leather styles, the Mostro gets a sleek and sophisticated makeover while retaining its signature monstrous features.
Originally introduced in 1999, the Mostro lived up to its Italian name, which translates to “monster.” This hybrid silhouette defied convention by merging inspiration from two seemingly disparate worlds: the sleek, track-dominating spikes of the 1960s and the laid-back comfort of 1980s surf shoes. The result was a shoe that was both bold and functional, a true outlier in the footwear landscape.
For its 25th anniversary this year, PUMA resurrected the PUMA Mostro, bringing back its audacious spirit. This latest iteration stays true to the shoe’s rebellious nature, featuring a clean, monochromatic color scheme in black and white. The low-profile silhouette boasts the Mostro’s defining characteristics: the iconic spiked sole for confident traction and the versatile strap closure for a secure, comfortable fit.
The perforated leather upper on these Mostros offers a luxurious feel and improved breathability, perfect for hot summer days. The signature PUMA Formstrip takes center stage on the lateral sides, adding a touch of branding without overwhelming the minimalist aesthetic. The banana-shaped split tongues, a hallmark of the Mostro design, are secured with a combination of buckles and elastic bands, ensuring a personalized fit. Rounding off the design are TPU heel badges featuring the PUMA logo, adding a subtle touch of detail to the monochromatic look.
The PUMA Mostro in black and white perforated leather drops on July 13, 2024, at select retailers worldwide, including KITH, Slam Jam, END. Clothing, SSENSE, SNS, Atmos, and SAiSON.
