The relationship between sneakers and music boasts a rich and lengthy history. While collaborations with artists like Travis Scott currently command top billing in the sneaker world, Nike continues its practice of crafting footwear influenced by music, evidenced by the release of the Nike Air Max 90 “Sound Wave.”
This iteration of the Air Max 90 pulls inspiration from the visual representation of audio frequencies, employing a striking multi-colored sound wave graphic prominently displayed on the heel. Rendered in a vibrant blend of red, blue, and yellow hues, this eye-catching feature is further accentuated by a matching red Swoosh and outsole.
The design incorporates additional bursts of color with yellow Air units and red and yellow branding on the heel and mudguard. These vibrant accents contrast against a foundation of white and grey leather, composing the majority of the upper. To ensure the sound wave graphic remains the focal point, Nike opted for a muted grey on the midsole wedge, lining, and heel badge, providing a neutral counterpoint to the shoe’s bolder elements.
Despite the imminent release anticipated in Fall 2024, Nike has yet to disclose the retail price for the Air Max 90 “Sound Wave.”
