The latest drop from Nike‘s Yardrunners program is here and it’s a real eye-catcher. This time the spotlight is on Virginia Union University (VUU) with a special edition Nike Air Force 1 Low called the “VUU Panthers”.
The mastermind behind this design is stylist Dex Robinson, a VUU alum who is no stranger to the world of footwear. Robinson has made a name for himself styling athletes like Jalen Hurts and Tyrod Taylor, and his streetwear brand DIALLO boasts fans like Offset and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. So it’s no surprise that his love for VUU translates into a truly unique Air Force 1.
First and foremost is the shoe’s striking construction. Made from luxurious faux black pony hair, the material evokes a sense of regality reminiscent of a coveted 2019 Air Jordan 4 and a 2016 women’s Air Force 1. But Robinson doesn’t stop there. He elevates the design with several eye-catching details. An iridescent border around the iconic swoosh adds a touch of modern flair, while pebbled leather accents on the tongue and back provide a contrasting texture. Finally, a semi-translucent gum sole offers a subtle nod to the Air Force 1’s heritage.
The “VUU Panthers” is a celebration of school spirit. Red and black rope laces, the university’s signature colors, tie the design together. The finishing touch? A set of special metal tabs commemorating VUU’s 160th anniversary – a subtle detail for true Panthers fans.
Mark your calendars! The Nike Air Force 1 Low “VUU Panthers” is set to release on December 18th via DTLR.com and select retailers. A wider Nike release date is still under wraps, so stay tuned for updates.
