At the 2024 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Kia America unveiled two groundbreaking custom EV concepts that hint at an adventurous and sustainable future. Designed by Kia Design Center America (KDCA) in Irvine, California, these vehicles embody a vision where capability and adaptability meet environmental consciousness.
The EV9 ADVNTR, a three-row all-electric SUV, epitomizes Kia’s vision for off-road electric adventure. Modified with custom front and rear fascias, reinforced rocker panels and a three-inch lift, the EV9 ADVNTR boasts a rugged aesthetic. Its enhanced off-road capabilities are further enhanced by a rugged tire and wheel combination. A custom roof rack, designed to accommodate everything from standard luggage containers to specialized roof tents, transforms the EV9 ADVNTR into a mobile base camp. “Our vehicles are already helping people live their active and adventurous lifestyles, and it was fun to see how far we could go with these latest concepts,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP, Kia America.
Derived from Kia’s Purpose Beyond Vehicles (PBV) line, the PV5 WKNDR reimagines what an electric van can be. Equipped with off-road tires and a lift, this concept prioritizes adaptability and utility. Its modular interior allows for efficient customization, maximizing space and function. A unique “Gear Head” feature provides external, protected storage, optimizing interior space while maintaining easy access to equipment. This innovative feature can also be converted into a mobile pantry for outdoor cooking enthusiasts. Solar panels and water turbine wheels provide sustainable charging solutions, powering features such as an on-board air compressor for tire inflation and other needs.
In addition to the EV concepts, Kia unveiled modified versions of its popular SUV models, each inspired by characters from Greek mythology and featuring a range of accessories. The Sportage “THETIS,” designed in collaboration with Rhino Rack, features a water-themed aesthetic and special kayak racks. The Telluride “ZEUS,” developed with Xpel, features a mountain theme, an iKamper roof tent and a Borla exhaust system. The Sorento “GAIA,” designed to blend in with nature, features a Yakima awning, outdoor projector screen and Baja Design lighting.
These concepts, along with a range of active lifestyle products, embody Kia’s “Beyond Organization” concept. The initiative is designed to streamline gear management, reduce campground setup time and enhance the overall outdoor experience. “The SEMA Show serves as a blank canvas for creativity and offers a glimpse into Kia’s automotive future,” said Steven Center. Kia’s presence at SEMA 2024 underscores the brand’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and enhancing the customer experience, especially for those who embrace an adventurous lifestyle.
